Hearts
When I worked in marketing, we were always trying to find a way to position our product fill a need. When I thought about it as an artist/consumer, I came up with these four basic human needs. Later I added "Please Me," to account for our desire for variety and amusement. These are also the the things our children need from us.
I cut these hearts out of basswood and had the letters cut out with a laser. Then I shaped the edges, roughed them up to look like the real heart candy and cleaned up the laser burns. Then I primed and painted them. A lot of real candy hearts are missing parts or letters, somethimes complete letters. I modified my designs to make them realistic.
