Sweet Revelations
Acrylic, lolipop sticks, cellophane sleeves, fishhooks, LED lightbox 25"h 49"w 5"d
I've made multiple lollipop lightboxes. Sweet Revelations above was made on request for a private party. The three lightboxes below are a triptych that was part of my consumerism show. The colored lollipops are not placed randomly. I work out various pointilist designs and then construct the design in vertical cellophane sleeves. The sleeves are then attached to the lightbox. Suckers were often marketed in cellophane sleeves when I was a child.
Mass Production: 24 hours of Suckers a la P.T. Bartum
P.T. Barnum, the U.S. showman of circus renown, reputedly said there is a sucker born every minute. For this triptych I made 1,440 suckers with several fishhooks thrown in. It's my artistic version of the phrase caveat emptor (buyer beware).
